SUMMARY: Performs a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks to maintain the appearance and operational efficiency of the building, including but not limited to preparing, establishing, maintaining, repairing, and/or installing landscape elements such as turf, trees/shrubs, hardscape, sprinkler/irrigation, drainage, fences, signage. Assist in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for students, staff, and the public.

- Maintain and police the grounds and exterior: Preparing for All events; Perform housekeeping throughout grounds and buildings to ensure high standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance.
- Perform preventative and minor building and grounds maintenance.
- Performs grounds work including fertilizing, mowing, aerating, seeding, sodding, top dressing, trimming and weed control. General Landscaping minor tree trimming, shrub work, mulching, planting, hardscaping.
- Assist with the winterization of all sprinkler and irrigation systems. Repairs sprinkler and irrigation systems. Repair and/or replace damaged sprinkler heads and lines. Program and monitor sprinkler systems during irrigation season.
- Prepare and maintain athletic fields and tracks, including striping, sweeping, and infield maintenance.
- Prepare and maintain athletic and Activity facilities used by Durango School District.
- Fence maintenance and repair.
- Snow removal; including plowing, sanding, and ice removal from pedestrian zones, and play areas, courtyards, parking areas.
- Perform snow removal duties during the day and in response to emergency call-in situations.
- Maintain equipment utilized to perform work.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age.
EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of experience in grounds work and general maintenance preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license permitting operation of vehicles in Colorado required. Criminal Background Check required for hire.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform math computations needed in trade.
- Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
- Knowledge of landscape installation and maintenance preferred.
- Ability to perform general maintenance.
- Ability to respond to departmental emergencies and participate in snow removal and on-call status.
- Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building/department procedures.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
- Operating knowledge of trucks, trailers, power tools, hand tools, irrigation/sprinkler systems, and landscape equipment preferred.
- Responsible for appropriate and efficient use of repair parts and tools provided by the District.
- Operating knowledge of and experience with snow removal equipment
