Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for an In School Suspension Student Support at Miller Middle School.  Poisition is full time, eight (8) hours per day Monday - Friday.  This position includes full benefits.  Begins asap.

SUMMARY: 

Position is responsible for providing a supervised and structured environment for students assigned to the in-school suspension program within a school. Position works with classroom teachers to coordinate the academic activities of suspended students and provides assistance to students in completing the assigned work. Position monitors students and maintains a safe and orderly environment within the in-school suspension classroom.

D  10%  Enforces adherence to established rules and regulations of the in-school suspension program and creates an effective climate for learning.  Communicates appropriate behavior, school rules, and regulations to students in the program; and explains to students the reasons for suspension and its impact on their education.  Guides and encourages students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.

 

D  15%  Serves as a liaison between the classroom teacher and students assigned to the program to obtain and return the student’s daily class work and homework.  Assigns additional work if the student completes their regular classroom assignments.

 

D  42%  Assists students assigned to the program with completing their regular classroom assignments.

 

D  4%  Monitors students who have been assigned to in-school suspension and reviews student progress. Communicates with parents and classroom teachers regarding student behavior and progress.

 

D  5%  Reports inappropriate behavior by students to administrative staff.

 

D 10%  Escorts students during break/lunch periods and monitors hallways.

 

D  3%  Maintains daily attendance and other records of students assigned to the program.

 

W  5% Reports the effectiveness of the program to the school administrative staff and makes suggestions for improvement.

 

M  3%  Engage in ongoing professional development.            

 

Ongoing 3% Perform other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Basic Skills Competence (Minimum 2 years of college, e.g. associates degree, or 48 semester hours of college coursework) OR Pass paraprofessional test (CDE and NCLB qualifications) prior to being hired.

 

 

EXPERIENCE: Experience is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:  CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required one month after hire.  Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required within three months of hire.  Colorado driver’s license and school district small vehicle operator permit may be required.
