Description

Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for a Head Alpine Ski Coach for the 2024/2025 school year at Durango High School.  The Alpine Ski Team will compete in the CHSSA Ski League.  The competition season runs January 2025 - February 2025 with State Championships held at the end of February.

 

The successful candidate needs to be flexible with their schedule, show great organizational and communication skills, and have the ability to lead and supervise a large group of student athletes.  The Head Coach is responsible for directing and supporting the Race Team in order that each athlete has fun reaching his/her full potential in all aspects of alpine racing, including education, training, preparation, and competion.  

 

Responsible for all aspects of the Alpine Ski Program at Durango High School, to include but not limited to the following:

  • supervision, mentoring, and assisting in the evaluation of assistant coaches if applicable
  • administration of budget
  • team supervision and discipline
  • care and inventory of uniforms and equipment
  • care of facilities
  • effective communication with DHS Athletic Department, Mountain Staff, School Administration, Players and Parents
  • fundraising
  • practice and competition planning


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid CHSAA Certification, or Colorado Teaching Certificate/License
  • Fundamental knowledge of competitive skiing
  • Experience working with related school aged athletes/students
  • Ability to work as an integral part of the coaching staff
  • Current medical injury treatment course work
  • Prior head coach experience is preferred, but not required.
