Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for .60 FTE Security Specialist/.40 FTE Health Service Provider at Big Picture High School, who will be responsible for creating a safe and secure school enviorment. Maintaining health records and for providing first aide and emergency health care for students and staff members in Durango School District 9-R. The starting pay for Health Servide Provider is $16.51/hr - $17.52/hr and the starting pay for Health Service Provider LPN (or higher) is $20.05/hr - $21.56/hr. Security Specialist starting pay is $17.02/hr - $17.52/hr. Includes benefits. Begins August 2022.

SUMMARY:  Administer first aid and medical care for injured or ill students and staff, provide physician ordered care or procedures, conduct screening programs and assure compliance with state health and immunization laws.  Maintain health records, health action plans and billing for Medicaid reimbursable procedures.

The frequency and percentage of time of duties may vary based on building or department assignment.

 

D   30%  Administer minor and major first aid to ill or injured students/staff.  Duties include determining

severity  of  illness/injury,  calling  911  if  necessary,  monitoring  chronically  ill  students, monitoring the exposure of others to diseases and contagious illnesses, disposing properly of body fluids, and performing technical procedures as necessary (e.g., blood glucose testing, injectable medication, diapering and/or catheterization, maintain feeding tubes.)

 

D   20%  Collect and maintain health information on students to include: computer data entry, cumulative records,

patient charts, immunization law compliance, exclusion/suspension and completion of district and state reports. Prepare and maintain student health files, including all health records, documents and reports. This includes documents to   inform teachers/specialists of children with special health needs. Complete staffing health information forms on Special   Education staffing.

 

D   10%  Communicate with District RN(s) and school staff to implement student health care plans.

 

D   10%  Administer medications and other medical treatments required by students in accordance with physician orders and district and state policy; record into daily medication logs. Notify parents/caregivers when medications are running low and ensure paperwork is properly maintained in file for students receiving medications.

 

D    5%   Contact parents/caregivers of ill or injured children, document all head injuries, file necessary

accident reports in accordance with established health office procedures and prepare student to go home if necessary. Compile and submit student injury reports to District Nurse and appropriate administrative personnel. Serve as worker’s compensation representative to assess and assist injured personnel with treatment options.

 

D    5%    Perform clerical and  secretarial duties as  necessary, including answering phones, typing, copying, and  preparing/mailing outgoing health correspondence.

 

D    2%    Provide students and parents with options for treatment and/or community resources by serving as a liaison to outside agencies and programs.

 

W    3%   Organize, schedule and implement health screening programs to include: vision, hearing, dental, etc. Record, track results, make recommendations for follow-up care for students who did not pass initial testing.

 

W   2%    Notify building administrator, teachers, transportation and kitchen staff of students with significant health concerns. Attend staffing/child study meetings as needed.  Research as needed regarding medications and conditions. Report suspected abuse or neglect to Administrator and proper authorities.

 

M    3%    Assist in facilitating activities that promote healthy lifestyles for school and community (blood drives, immunization  clinics, cholesterol screenings, dental clinics, etc.)

 

M    3%    Assist  in  control  of  nuisance diseases  per  instruction of  District  Nurse  and  state  health department. Report infectious diseases to District Nurse and state health department as per CDPHE guidelines.

 

D    3%    Maintain a clean and orderly health office, including inventorying and ordering supplies. Assist with maintenance of  the MSDS book for the building.

 

Ongoing 4%  Perform other duties as assigned.  

 

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent. Training as one of the following desired: LPN, Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant.

 

EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years’ experience in related field.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:  CPR and First Aid required. Criminal Background Check required for hire.

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing for a safe and secure school environment, fostering an optimal learning environment and acting as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by patrolling the campus, monitoring student behavior, enforcing school and District policies, intervening in physical encounters, monitoring security cameras, monitoring visitors, reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions and assisting administrators and/or public officials with emergency or investigative situations. Position may require varying work hours and days including evenings and weekends. D    45%  Maintain the safety and security of the students and campus before and after school, foster an optimal learning  environment and act as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by providing high visibility throughout the school; walking and surveying hallways, common areas, grounds and parking lots; monitoring group dynamics in order to identify potential fights and gang or hazardous activities; intervening in verbal and physical encounters among the students; diffusing hostile situations; and enforcing safe school policies regarding weapons, tobacco, illegal substances, traffic rules, dress code, etc.  Discuss/mediate infractions with students, provide written accounts of unacceptable behavior/incidents to administrators and assist with assignment of disciplinary measures as necessary. Report unsafe conditions and potential health and safety hazards to administrators and/or maintenance.

 

D    15%  Monitor students during the lunch hour inside and outside of the building.

 

D    15%  Investigate to identify students engaging in inappropriate behaviors when required.  May include talking to and questioning students regarding attendance and/or discipline matters to include written reports, reporting discipline incidents.

 

D    5%    Direct traffic entering and leaving parking lot, monitor curbside parking to assure safe and convenient parking for buses, and/or assist students locked out of cars.

 

D    2%    Attend and participate in security meetings and trianings.

 

D    5%    Retrieve students from class at the request of administration and escort to specified location.

 

D    3%    Assist visitors and check for visitor passes.  Request identification of non-students, provide directions, and/or escort off campus if necessary.

 

W   5%    May provide security at sporting events and extracurricular activities outside of school hours including evenings and weekends.

 

M   2%     Assist administrators, staff, students, and building visitors during drills and crisis situations (drills, evacuations, lockdowns, lockouts, weapons control, bomb threats.)  Attend and participate in security/safety meetings.

 

W  2%     Communicate with local police regarding student and/or property matters.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or equivalency in criminal justice or related field preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience preferred in directing and/or supervising individuals, preferably youth. Must be 21 years of age or older.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: CPR/First Aid/AED certifications preferred at hire; required within one month of hire. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required within three months of hire. ICS 100 SCA and IS362 Certificate within three months of hire. Valid Colorado Driver’s License required. Criminal background check required for hire.
