Description

Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for Maintenance Engineer - Plumbing Technician.  Position includes benefits and begins September 15, 2021 or ASAP.

SUMMARY Perform skills relating to the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems.  Assist other maintenance workers and contractors as needed.  Maintain a safe, comfortable, and secure learning environment for students, staff, and the public.

D             45%        Troubleshoot, repair and maintain plumbing equipment including, but not limited to, faucets, grease traps, flush valves, sinks, water heaters, commodes, drinking fountains domestic water heater pumps, flush meters, backflow prevention devices, and valves and water meters.

 

D             15%        Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs in all district facilities including, but not limited to, domestic water systems and related devices and sanitary waste drainage.

 

W            5%         Respond to emergencies in buildings including, but not limited to, clogged drains, broken water lines, and

frozen pipes, gas odors, and possible gas leaks.  Evaluate situation and take corrective action.

 

M            10%        Install new plumbing fixtures including, but not limited to, sinks, commodes, urinals, faucets, drinking

fountains, domestic water heaters and related devices.

 

M            5%         Maintain and repair all natural gas services including values.

 

M            5%         Provide labor and material estimates related to plumbing for small remodel projects.

 

M            3%         Represent department management in after-hours emergency “on call” status

 

A             5%         Perform snow removal duties during the day and in response to emergency call-in situations.

 

W            3%         Order and maintain inventory of plumbing and welding fittings and parts.

              

Ongoing  4%        Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent.  Courses in plumbing, heating, boiler maintenance, commercial kitchen appliance repair, electrical, and other building trades preferred.  

 

EXPERIENCE:  3+ years experience in plumbing, commercial kitchen appliance repair, and troubleshooting.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:  Valid Colorado driver’s license required.  Backflow Prevention Certification preferred at hire, required within 6 months of entering position.  Criminal Background Check required for hire.

 

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to perform math computations needed in trade.
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures.

 

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of general plumbing repair, commercial kitchen appliance repair, maintenance equipment and district maintenance vehicles required for hire.
  • Responsible for appropriate and efficient use of repair parts and tools provided by the District.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with snow removal equipment
