SUMMARY: The Homebound Instructor provides instruction in a positive and productive homebound setting for students who qualify due to medical approvals, disciplinary placement, and/or students' placed in or transitioning out of residential facilities, when appropriate. The Homebound Instructor collaborates closely with school teams, families, and other providers to support both alternative and homebound programming, transition plans, and may provide consultation and assistance to teachers and students. The Homebound Instructor develops, supports and implements learning opportunities based upon the unique needs of the student being served, to include social/emotional and academic intervention strategies that support individual student behavioral, socio-emotional and academic development.

24%    Planning

  • Design homebound programs and interventions for students that are consistent with the total educational philosophy of the district
  • Collaborate with general education and SPED teachers, school administration, other pertinent staff, the Student Support Services Department and families in planning, developing and implementing alternative, transitional, and homebound programs and strategies for identified students.
  • Continue professional growth through educational meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, participating in technical training opportunities, and exchanging ideas with other district staff

24%    Services to Students

  • Provide direct, instructional services to identified students
  • Empower identified students to engage in unique and engaging learning activities that support the whole child
  • Participate as a team member in the student’s overall academic and support plan, closely collaborating with families and other providers, in addition to the school-based team
  • Design, support and implement homebound and transitional plans and programs for students to support academic, socio-emotional and behavioral needs
  • Develop and maintain student data as needed
  • Participate as a team member in referring those students who require further evaluation, intervention and/or follow-up services to appropriate school personnel and/or community individuals/agencies

24%    Service to Staff

  • Plan and consult with Gen Ed and SpEd teachers, School Counselors, administration and other pertinent district staff regarding students identified for alternative and homebound services
  • Serve as an expert and leader in student-centered and personalized learning strategies and be willing to conduct staff training, in-service and professional development activities for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals and other staff regarding instructional techniques for behavior management skills and remediation of socio-emotional and behavioral problems in students
  • Assist teachers with the development and implementation of Transitional Student Support Plans
  • Serve as an advocate and liaison with families, and pertinent community individuals and agencies

24%    Reporting

  • Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate job-related documentation tools and processes, as well as student progress monitoring tools and systems
  • Complete pertinent reports for school district, local and state agencies, and other pertinent individuals and organizations
  • Complete ongoing documentation of activities and services to students, staff and families

4%      Ongoing    Perform other duties as assigned

 

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Assure the safety and welfare of students including necessary actions to insure that students are supervised at all times
  • Demonstrate faithfulness and promptness in attendance at work
  • Submit required reports promptly at specified times
  • Demonstrate care of and protection of School District property
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law
  • Use the District’s internet and E-mail system as specified in Policy
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principals or their designees.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Minimum: Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university.

 

EXPERIENCE: Experience is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:  Colorado Teaching License with endorsements for the levels and subject areas teaching. Pass the PLACE or PRAXIS II Test. Meet CDE and ESSA's requirements for In-Field Teacher. May be required to complete CPI training depending on assignment.

  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Ability to utilize formative and summative assessments to access student learning.
  • Ability to implement IEP’s, 504’s, and behavior support plans.
