Description

Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for the Kids' Camp After School Program Aide positions at it's various elementary schools. This position will work to create a safe and enriching after school environment by planning and implementing meaningful activities, providing time for homework completion, tutoring, and academic enrichment, recruiting community partners to facilitate activities at the schools, communicating with school day staff and parents, and assisting the Site Coordinator with any necessary paperwork.  Work hours are:  Mondays 1pm-6pm and Tuesdays-Fridays 2:30pm-6:00pm (19 hrs/wk).  $13 per hour minimum to start, paid personal and sick leave, paid holidays. Partial insurance benefits included.  Begins asap.

SUMMARY:  Create a safe and enriching after school environment by directly supervising students, facilitating meaningful activities, assisting the Site Coordinator in planning activities, communicating with school day staff and parents, and assisting the Site Coordinator with completion of paperwork.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. D         70%              Supervise, guide and assist students during tutoring and structured activities to provide developmental stimulation and meet the children’s needs.  Monitor student behavior during activities, effectively handle student discipline situations and encourage and support positive behavior.

 

D          10%           Observe the children and monitor the security of the building at all times to ensure the chilren’s health and safety.  Provide general First Aid when needed.  

 

D         10%            Assist in creating interesting and educational activities to engage the interest of students.

 

D          5 %            Prepare snacks and clean the activity areas after use.

 

Ongoing 5%         Perform other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent.  Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Three months full time or six months of half time (paid or volunteer) experience caring for and supervising a group of 4 or more children preferred.  Experience is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:  CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required one month after hire.  Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training required within three months of hire.  Must pass a crimianal background check.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES: 

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form using positive interpersonal skills

  • Ability to use effective interventions for at risk learners

  • Ability to develop and implement behavior management systents and reinforcement systems.

  • Non-violent and physical intervention techniques

  • Ability to promote and follow Board and District policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures.

  • Knowledge of first aid skills

     

    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers.

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.
